Welcome to our career site
A unique career
Our aim at the Police Digital Service (PDS) is to support UK policing to keep people safe, get more from technology investments and make better use of public money.
Ours is a team of experts in commercial services, technical assurance, data, digital transformation and innovation. We are always on the lookout for great talent to help us make PDS even better.
Workplace & culture
At PDS we're focused on finding the best talent, wherever they are in the UK. That's why 82% of our roles are fully remote. The remaining 18% are hybrid roles, operating out of our Wigan office and helping to keep policing secure.
We’re committed to creating a diverse, inclusive and supportive workplace that recognises our employees’ lives aren’t all about their job. That's why we offer a range of benefits to help with your work/life balance.
-
Flexible working hours
We trust you to do your job and we appreciate that life doesn’t always fit around a 9 to 5 workday. From day one, you can request changes to your working hours on a permanent basis, and 34% of our people choose to work non-traditional hours that suit their needs.
Some of our roles do require set shifts. If this is the case for a role you've applied for, it will be discussed with you at interview.
-
Working from home
Most of our roles are remote, with around 18% operating on a hybrid basis. This is always indicated in the advert.
For all roles, we will provide you with all the equipment you need to get set up at home. We just ask that you have good internet connection and a private, quiet space which allows you to do your best work.
-
Pension
There’s a choice of two pension schemes to meet your needs: Nest or St James’s Place. You’ll also have access to pensions advice via Collins Wealth Management.
We offer double matched contributions up to 6%. So if you put in 6%, we will put in a 12% employer contribution.
You can opt to pay in more if you like.
We operate a salary sacrifice scheme to allow you to benefit from National Insurance Contribution savings.
You can opt out if you’d prefer not to have a pension at all.
-
Health and wellbeing
You’ll receive an entitlement to paid sick leave for physical and mental health from day one. This starts at one month’s full pay, right from your first day with us.
Our Employee Assistance Programme offers a 24/7 confidential advice line for health, legal & bereavement support (and lots more).
After successfully completing your probation period, you’ll receive access to the Help@Hand health and wellbeing app which includes remote GP appointments, mental health support, physiotherapy and much more.
-
Holiday
We offer 28 days’ holiday a year plus bank holidays – and we want you to take and enjoy them!
You’ll receive an additional day after completing three years’ service, and another after five years with us.
You can choose to opt out of the government set UK bank holidays and instead use these days, like your annual leave, to take on dates that are important to you.
You can also purchase an additional 5 days leave a year to top up your annual leave balance.
-
Family
Our enhanced maternity leave offers pregnant parents and primary adopters 26 weeks at full pay (inclusive of SMP), followed by 13 weeks at the prescribed rate of SMP. Our paternity/non-pregnant parent/secondary adopter offer is for six weeks at full pay.
When our new parents return from maternity, paternity, primary adopter or secondary-adopter leave, they also get a phased return as standard, helping them to adjust to the juggle of parenting and working. This phased return means a return at full pay immediately, while only working 80% of your hours for the first month back.
-
Community
To support you and the community you live in we offer one paid day a year to attend volunteering events.
We're also part of the Employer Supported Policing scheme, meaning colleagues who volunteer as Special Constables or Police Support Volunteers are entitled to up to 12 days of additional paid leave per year to do so.
